We’re thrilled to announce a major milestone in our electric cooking journey: Bidhaa Sasa has signed an agreement with the Modern Cooking Facility for Africa (MCFA) to bring clean, electric cooking to thousands more households in Kenya.
This results-based financing partnership puts serious weight behind something we’ve believed in for years – that rural families deserve access to modern, efficient, and affordable cooking technologies. With MCFA’s backing, we’ll scale up distribution of electric pressure cookers (EPCs) and other e-cooking appliances, while reinforcing the customer training, after-sales support, and credit systems that make adoption possible in last-mile areas.
The agreement is part of MCFA’s larger initiative – supported by the European Union, Sweden, and Norway, and implemented by Nefco – to accelerate the clean cooking transition in Sub-Saharan Africa. Out of hundreds of applicants across the continent, Bidhaa Sasa was selected as one of the few private sector recipients of this pioneering support.
“We are very proud to include Bidhaa Sasa in the MCFA portfolio, a company which deploys an innovative and proven business model centred around the needs of women as customers and agents of change. Bidhaa Sasa’s model, based on home delivery and flexible payment plans, helps overcome persistent barriers related to access and affordability. It is also a great example of how the private sector can support market change while being firmly rooted in the communities it serves,” comments Heli Sinkko, Fund Manager for MCFA at Nefco.
This is not just a funding agreement – it’s a signal. It shows that electric cooking is moving beyond pilot projects and into scale. It shows that electric cooking, once thought out of reach for low-income households, is now a viable and investable solution.
And it shows that our team’s persistence – building up technical capabilities, collecting usage data, training customers, working with utilities, and advocating for policy change – is paying off.
So, what’s next? A massive push to get more electric cookers into more homes. More field visits. More recipe trials. More usage data. More impact.
We’ve always believed that e-cooking is the future. With MCFA’s support, that future just got a lot closer.
